Source: American Airline plans job cuts
By Patty Davis WASHINGTON (CNN) -- American Airlines is expecting to announce job cuts as early as mid-week, a source told CNN. The source gave no estimate for the number of layoffs or an exact date for the announcement. American has been hurt financially by last week's terrorist hijackings and crashes. The source said the number of layoffs will be dependent upon how business rebounds. Load factors -- which measures the amount of airline passenger capacity being used -- have not been high since the hijackings. But over the weekend, the source said, American's load factor was decent, "but that's still people getting back into place" from the hijackings. TWA had a low load factor over the weekend, the source said The source told CNN "I don't think we will see a lot of people traveling" in future weeks. |
