| United flight makes emergency landing in American SamoaLOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A United Airlines flight from Melbourne, Australia, to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Pago Pago, American Samoa, after smoke was seen around an engine, a Pago Pago airport official said. The official said none of the 345 passengers and crew members were injured. United Airlines transferred the passengers to a different aircraft. That aircraft was headed to Honolulu, Hawaii, and then on to Los Angeles, and was scheduled to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport early Tuesday. The cause of the smoke near the engine is still under investigation. No one from United Airlines could be reached for comment. RELATED SITES: See related sites about US | ||||||||||||||||||||
