Deadly fire at California animal shelter
ESCONDIDO, California (CNN) -- At least 85 dogs, rabbits and other potential pets survived a weekend fire that destroyed an animal shelter north of San Diego. But some were badly burned or suffered smoke inhalation in the Saturday night blaze, which killed more than 100 animals at the Escondido Humane Society. A message posted on the shelter's Web site says at least $3.5 million will be needed to rebuild the facility. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
