Frank Buckley: Two or three Santana students asked not to attend
CNN National Correspondent Frank Buckley is in Santee, California, reporting on the aftermath of the shooting at Santana High School. Q: When will the school reopen? BUCKLEY: The campus will reopen for students Wednesday morning, almost 48 hours after the shooting. Students normally arrive at the school in two shifts. But school officials want all the students at the school at the same time, so the students are expected to be in classrooms at about the time the shooting took place Wednesday. The school buildings were already open for teachers earlier Tuesday and the campus will be open to the media Tuesday evening. Q: Are all the students expected to return? BUCKLEY: At least two or three students have been asked not to attend school Wednesday. Those students allegedly had talked to the suspect, Charles Andrew Williams, in days leading up to the shooting and heard him threaten violence and did not report those threats to authorities. The principal has said he did not think it was "in their best interest" to be on campus when school reopens Wednesday. He also wants to further investigate those allegations before he allows them to be part of the campus community. Q: Will counseling be available to the students? BUCKLEY: When school reopens Wednesday there will be counselors in each classroom to facilitate discussion about the shooting. Apparently the federal Department of Education offered counselors and they were to arrive Tuesday to assist in that effort. The churches in the community opened their doors immediately after the shooting incident. The community has been taking advantage of that and has been going for counseling. The churches have also become gathering spots for people to just be with each other and just talk about the incident. RELATED STORIES:
