SANTA BARBARA, California (CNN) -- The college student charged in the four pedestrian deaths caused from a car crash last month had traces of marijuana and a painkiller in his blood the night of the accident, according to toxicology reports.

The report on David Edward Attias was released Tuesday night through the California Highway Patrol under the authorization of the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.

According to the CHP, the painkiller found in Attias' bloodstream, lidocaine, is used for minor surgeries and emergency room procedures and as a "cutting agent" in illegal drug preparation.

Police said Attias was speeding the night of February 23 in the Isla Vista community -- adjacent to the University of California Santa Barbara campus -- when he veered to the right, sideswiping nine cars with his 1991 Saab sedan.

Five pedestrians walking between those cars were struck; four died.

Attias is being held in the Santa Barbara County Jail. He has pleaded innocent to the charges.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday.
