1 killed in Gary, Indiana, school shooting, police say

GARY, Indiana (CNN) -- A 16-year-old student was shot to death Friday in the parking lot of a Gary, Indiana, high school, police tell CNN.

Gary radio station WGVE reports the victim was a 10th-grader at Lew Wallace High School. He was shot 8:10 a.m. CST, according to The Associated Press.

The suspected shooter is 17 years old, police said, and has been taken into custody.

The suspect is believed to be a former student, the AP reported.
