Brooklyn boy escapes from alleged kidnapperNEW YORK (CNN) -- An 11-year-old Brooklyn boy was kidnapped near his home Friday morning, but escaped by jumping out of his alleged abductor's van at an intersection in midtown Manhattan, police said. "The kid jumped out at 34th (Street) and 7th (Avenue)," Detective Eugene Canapi said. After fleeing the van, the boy approached a nearby police officer and reported that he'd just been kidnapped, Canapi said. Police then pursued the fleeing vehicle to the corner of 50th Street and 8th Avenue, where the driver was arrested. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Police declined to confirm reports that they are trying to determine whether the man under arrest is one of two suspects who attempted to kidnap young boys in Brooklyn last month. Police also declined to further identify the boy or the alleged kidnapper. RELATED SITES:
