One of the chief reasons is the boom in Latinos in suburban communities in states like New Jersey, which saw a 51 percent gain.

In the second part of her series on Hispanics and the census, CNN's Maria Hinojosa takes a look at one middle class family that is trying to mix into a community where they are outpacing blacks as the majority minority.

You can see her report tonight on CNN at 10 p.m., and Wednesay at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. EDT.

Read a transcript of the first part of Hinojosa's series about a minority within a minority -- wealthy Latinos.
