Wildfire threatens central Florida homesST. CLOUD, Florida (CNN) -- Residents of approximately 40 homes were allowed Tuesday to return to their houses and pick up some belongings as firefighters continued to battle a wildfire that threatened their subdivision. The 300-acre blaze, called the Bay Lake Ranch fire, prompted the evacuation Monday night, said a spokesman with the Florida Division of Forestry. The fire is in a northeast portion of Osceola County in central Florida. No homes have been lost, but some cars, garages and sheds have been damaged, according to the Osceola County Fire Department. There were no injuries. "All you can do is wish for the best," said Brad Keene, a resident. "You know, maybe it's not going come toward your house and burn it up, you never know." The evacuation was voluntary, and some residents returned home Tuesday, said Twis Hoang, spokeswoman for the county fire department. She said authorities were still advising residents to stay away from the area. More homes could be threatened by the blaze depending on the progress firefighters making in containing the blaze, officials said. The forestry spokesman said he was not sure what sparked the fire.
