Violence rocks streets near Colorado campus

GREELEY, Colorado (CNN) -- Police are reviewing videotapes Sunday after a night of fires and street violence near the campus of the University of Northern Colorado. Two minor injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.

"The streets have been cleared up," said Sgt. John Gates, with the Greeley Police Department.

Overnight, he said, seven to eight fires were lit by young people, believed to be mostly students. He said events seem to spring from a party that got out of hand.

"It was best described as a riot," he said, adding that officers were pelted with rocks, bottles and pieces of concrete. Two suffered minor injuries.

The violence unfolded between 11 p.m. (1 a.m. EDT) and 3:15 a.m. (5:15 a.m. EDT) in a six-block area in central Greeley.

Gates said no arrests have been made, but police are reviewing the videotapes to see whether they could identify any suspects. No arrests were made during the disturbance, he said, because authorities didn't want to exacerbate the situation.

Gates said there was "limited property damage" with broken windows to cars, broken residential fences and some damage to the street.
