Officials with NCL had been attempting to fix the vessel's sprinkler system and get their work approved by the Coast Guard. According to NCI spokesman Andy Stuart, in order to maintain the itinerary planned for the cruise, the work needed to be completed by Monday evening, but this has not happened.

Guests aboard the S/S Norway will be offered a full refund including incidental charges incurred in traveling to and from the vessel. Additionally, NCI will provide air transportation home for all those guests who require it and a future free seven-day Caribbean cruise up to the value of the fare paid for the current cruise.

When asked to describe the passengers' reaction to the decision to cancel the cruise, Stuart said: "Clearly they were disappointed, but I genuinely believe they think we tried our best, which we did."
