Lightning sparks fire at refinery near New Orleans

Lighting sparked the fire at the Orion Refining Corp.

NORCO, Louisiana (CNN) -- A lightning strike sparked a fire in a 180,000 gallon fuel tank Thursday afternoon at the Orion Refining Corp. about 10 miles west of New Orleans, state police said.

Sgt. Wayne Winkler said the lightning hit fuel that was leaking from the tank because of water weighing down on the top of the structure, the result of several days of rain in the region.

No injuries have been reported, and no evacuations have been ordered. State police are supervising the firefighting efforts.
