After 3-hour escapade, elephant back homeDENVER, Colorado -- Hope is home at the Denver Zoo, but only after a straining, draining day on the loose.
The 6,700-pound elephant escaped from zookeepers during a midday bath on Sunday. After escaping, Hope knocked over a stroller carrying a baby girl, who suffered a small bump on the head. One person sprained an ankle and another suffered an asthma attack running from the animal. The elephant's escapade ended three hours later when trainer Jim Williams gave Hope a sedative and put her back in her cage. After a day off, Hope resumed performing at the zoo on Tuesday. She will perform alongside a smaller elephant named Amigo through Labor Day. |
