One dead in Connecticut small plane crashGREENWICH, Connecticut (CNN) -- One person died when the small plane he was piloting crashed on Friday morning in a wooded area in Greenwich, Connecticut, police said. The single-engine Piper Saratoga missed its approach to the main runway at Westchester County Airport at 8:57 a.m. and was told by Federal Aviation Administration controllers to circle the airport, said Harry Stanton, deputy commissioner for Westchester County Department of Transportation. The pilot then radioed the FAA that he needed assistance and emergency vehicles lined the runway, Stanton said. But the plane never made it to the airport, crashing at 9 a.m. near the intersection of Bedford Road and Audubon Lane, in northwest Greenwich, Stanton said. The plane was registered to Heber Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. |
