Winning ticket sold in $141 million lottery jackpot
SACRAMENTO, California (CNN) -- Somebody won California's SuperLotto Plus jackpot of $141 million, the largest in the state's history. Vincent Montane, director of communications of the California Lottery Commission, said the winning ticket was purchased at the Union Liquor store in San Jose. He said the ticketholder won't be known until the ticket is redeemed. The $141 million jackpot build up over the past few months after several drawings failed to produce a winner. The winning numbers for the SuperLotto Plus are 3, 22, 43, 44, 45 with the Meganumber, 8. The lottery said ticket sales stopped at 7:45 p.m. PT Saturday night. Between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., she said, $3.8 million worth of tickets were sold at an average of 64,000 tickets per minute. Over the lunch hour, $3.2 million in tickets were sold. If a single winner took the cash option for payment, he or she would receive a lump sum of about $70 million before taxes. A winner who took the 26-annual payment option would receive a payment of $3.5 million for the first year, gradually increasing up to $7 million per year. The retailer who sold the winning ticket will be awarded $700,000. California public schools will receive about $80 million. |
