Minister: Daughter and Condit had affair

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As police negotiate with Rep. Gary Condit's lawyers about the scope of questions he might be asked during a possible polygraph examination, a minister has made new allegations of an affair involving the lawmaker.

Investigative sources told CNN that FBI agents have talked with a Pentecostal minister in Condit's California congressional district who told them his daughter had an affair with Condit seven years ago when she was 18.

Sources confirmed an interview was held with the Rev. Otis Thomas, but the sources said the FBI does not know if Thomas' allegations have any relevance to the investigation of Levy's disappearance.

Condit has been the center of news media attention because of his relationship with Levy, who was last reported seen April 30 at a Washington gym. Her family said the 24-year-old former intern with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons had an affair with Condit, 53, a married father of two, and police sources said Condit confirmed in an interview with police that the two had a romantic relationship.

The Levys also say Condit has impeded the investigation by withholding for weeks the nature of his relationship with Levy from police.

Agents are seeking an interview with Thomas' daughter. But when reporters went to Thomas' home in Ceres, California, a note signed by Jennifer Thomas was taped to the door saying she did not know Chandra Levy or Condit.

"I never met that congressman who's involved in all this. I don't even have an interest in politics as it is," read the note. "Mrs. Levy's daughter and I were never friends in school or anywhere else. I don't even know if we went to the same school or something together. I don't know the family personally. I never met Mrs. Levy until she showed up at my father's house looking for me. I don't even know how both me and my father got mixed up in this. We don't know anything so stop calling us and showing up at our door."

Outside their home in Modesto, California, Robert and Susan Levy, Chandra's parents, confirmed they knew Otis Thomas but declined to talk about the latest report.

"We appreciate anyone coming forward to helping us get my daughter home," Susan Levy said.

The Washington Post reported that Otis Thomas, who has a landscaping business, has worked for Chandra Levy's parents for about four years and had told his story to them. A spokeswoman for Condit told the Post that the questions about the alleged affair were "destructive, unfair and irrelevant."
