Three die in Home Depot shooting in Georgia

MORROW, Georgia (CNN) -- A man opened fire in a Home Depot just south of Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, killing his former girlfriend and at least one other person before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Clayton County sheriff's Maj. Doug Jewett said the gunman's mother called 911 around 8 a.m. and told police he had taken "her car without permission and that he was coming to this location, the Home Depot on Mt. Zion Road, to kill his girlfriend."

A second 911 call was made a short time later from inside the Home Depot reporting a man with a gun.

"A dispatcher heard some gunfire in the background and lost contact with the caller," Jewett said.

A Morrow police officer responding to the scene exchanged fire with the gunman when he ran out of the store.

"The gunman then ran into the Home Depot and apparently took his own life at that point," said Maj. Doug Jewett.

One other person was hurt in the shooting.
