Sons of fugitive murder suspect recovered in Washington

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The parents of a fugitive murder suspect said their two grandchildren -- believed to have been abducted by their father -- appeared at their house Saturday night, according to District of Columbia police.

Eric Wooten, a 34-year-old physician, may have fled Atlanta with his two sons last week after his ex-wife's body was found in the basement of his home, said police from Forest Park, in the Atlanta, Georgia, area.

The boys, ages 4 and 5, were in the custody of children's protective services in Washington, police said Sunday.

"They were turned in to a hospital by their grandparents and their attorney," said Capt. Chris Matson from Forest Park Police. "FBI agents are currently interviewing the grandparents as to how they came in contact with the children, and when and under what circumstances."

Wooten, a former major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, has been charged with the murder this month of his ex-wife, Phyllis Wooten. Her body was found last week.

The Forest Park police and the FBI said Wooten is armed and dangerous, and possibly suicidal.

Washington Department of Family and Children's Services (DFACS) called the Forest Park police about 30 minutes after the television show "America's Most Wanted" aired a segment on Wooten and his boys Saturday night. They reported two boys in the Children's Hospital fit the description of the missing children. Shortly after, the FBI and D.C. police confirmed the children were, in fact, Wooten's sons.
