Wyoming wildfire winds down

BRIDGER-TETON NATIONAL FOREST, Wyoming (CNN) -- The residents of a final subdivision under mandatory evacuation near the resort town of Jackson, Wyoming, and the nearby resort area of Jackson Hole will be allowed to return to their homes Thursday as fire officials begin to demobilize the team assembled to fight a wildfire.

Containment of the blaze, known as the Green Knoll fire, is up to 80 percent as fire personnel held the acres burned at 4,470 for a third straight day, according to the Interagency Fire Center. At one point, five subdivisions southwest of Jackson had been under evacuation orders.

Residents of the Indian Paintbrush subdivision can return to the their neighborhood after 9 a.m. MDT (11 a.m. EDT).

The Teton Fires Interagency Web site said a massive demobilization of nearly 1,300 firefighters will begin later in the day, but warned residents "there will still be fire equipment in the area for up to two weeks as precaution against future starts" of wildfires.

The center said the price tag for fighting the blaze is up to $8 million.
