Four shot at New York bus terminal
NEW YORK (CNN) -- A gunman opened fire on a Greyhound bus after it pulled into a bus terminal in Manhattan, wounding four people, a police spokesman said. The man, believed to have been a passenger on the coach, was arrested shortly after the shooting, Sergeant Stephen Prospero said. It is not known whether the four victims were targeted or shot at random, Prospero said. They are not believed to have life-threatening injuries. The shooting occurred at Gate 34, a doorway leading to bus departure areas.
The gunman, whose name was not immediately released, was believed to have been a passenger on the coach, which had come from Boston. The shooting occurred at about 10:20 p.m. Friday on the lower level of the Port Authority terminal, located about three blocks from Times Square in one of the city's busiest areas. Roy Balkaral, a Port Authority customer service representative, told The Associated Press: "I was standing there when the bus came in from Boston, and people starting running in saying, 'Call 911!' "As soon as they said that, I heard two shots: Bang! Bang! I ran upstairs and told two cops that there was a shooting." Two people suffered leg wounds, Port Authority spokesman Greg Trevor said. One victim was hit in the back, and another in the foot. Police recovered the weapon used by the suspect. |
