Three wounded at Buffalo V.A. hospital
BUFFALO, New York (CNN) -- A man shot two people and stabbed a third at the Veterans Affairs hospital here Friday. The three wounded were in stable condition, said FBI spokesman Paul Moskel. Authorities apprehended the suspect at his home soon after the attack. He was identified as Samuel Bobo, a 39-year-old Army veteran who had been undergoing treatment at the hospital. Bobo was arraigned before a U.S. magistrate late Friday and charged with assault with intent to commit homicide -- a charge that could carry a 20-year sentence. The incident took place around 11:15 a.m. when a man tried to drive the wrong way toward the ambulance entrance, according to Michael Hughes, a spokesman for Rural Metro Ambulance Service, which had employees at the scene. A security guard stopped the man, who proceeded to pull out a rifle and shoot the guard, Hughes said. The suspect entered the emergency room where he shot an employee and stabbed a volunteer driver who had brought patients to the hospital from about 70 miles away. The man fled the scene but was captured a short time later by Buffalo and federal police, Hughes said. Moskel said Bobo had served in the U.S. Army and had been undergoing outpatient treatment at the VA hospital. He said there was no apparent motive. |
