Condit gives first print interview to People magazine

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Rep. Gary Condit's first interview with the print media was conducted Tuesday with People magazine, CNN learned Wednesday.

Condit's interview about the disappearance of former federal intern Chandra Levy will be the cover story for the September 3 issue, which will appear on newsstands Friday, People representatives confirmed to CNN.

The cover shows a picture of Condit and his wife, Carolyn, staring straight-faced at the camera with their arms around each other. The cover reads, "Gary Condit talks: Blunt one moment, ducking tough questions the next, the embattled Congressman, in a People interview, goes public about Chandra Levy." People magazine is owned by AOL Time Warner, the parent company of CNN.

The Condits were accompanied to the interview by their two children, Cadee and Chad.

Condit is also expected to give an interview to Newsweek magazine.

The California Democrat's first broadcast interview, with ABC's Connie Chung, is scheduled to be aired Thursday, at 10 p.m. ET.
