Seven injured in Kentucky pileupSPARTA, Kentucky (CNN) -- Seven people were taken to area hospitals after a multiple-vehicle accident on Interstate 71, halfway between Louisville, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Gallitin County officials said. It was unclear what caused the accident. Video of the scene showed the highway closed to traffic, and three semi-trailer trucks on the median, one carrying a load of cars on its trailer. An overturned truck lay on its side with boxes dumped across the highway's shoulder. A demolished truck lay under a pile of magazines and shelving units spread across the scene. Police received a call at 7:42 a.m. EDT, reporting three tractor trailers and seven passenger vehicles involved in an accident. A man, 52, and a woman, 42, were airlifted from the scene to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where hospital spokeswoman Amy Bomar said doctors are evaluating whether to admit them. Five others were taken to Carroll County Hospital in Kentucky, where they were being treated for multiple contusions. None of the injuries was life threatening, a hospital spokesman said. One person was treated and released from St. Luke West Hospital in Florence, Kentucky. |
