Seven dead in two Iowa homicides

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (CNN) -- Sioux City police are investigating the deaths of seven people in two homicide cases.

A baby-sitter found the bodies of a woman and her five children in a home in a westside neighborhood early Thursday evening. A man was also found dead in his home on the north side of town.

The children ranged in age from 5 to 12.

"When officers arrived, they found the bodies of five children and one adult female," Lt. Dave Hurni said.

Hurni added, it's safe to say that the family did not die of natural causes, but would not say how they died.

Across town, police were investigating the death of a seventh person in an unrelated case. A man was found lying in the entryway of a home on the city's north side.

Both cases are being treated as homicides, but no suspects have been mentioned by police.

Late Thursday night, police found a 1999 Oldsmobile that they that they had been searching for. Officers were checking fingerprints and other evidence in the vehicle.

Investigators continue to look for a green 1992 Ford pickup truck, which they believe may also be related to the homicide cases.
