Ein, based in Washington, was hired by the California congressman's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, to head Condit's dealings with the media in regard to his relationship with missing former intern Chandra Levy.

Condit, 53 and married, claims to have just been a friend of Levy. However, police sources and Levy's family have said the congressman was having a sexual relationship with the 24-year-old woman.

Sources have told CNN that there was a lot of disagreement about the public relations strategy, in which Condit recently broke months of silence and spoke to the media about his relationship with Levy, who has been missing since May 1.

Ein felt she was not in the loop on the public relations strategy, the sources said, and also felt her advice was not taken.
