Johnnie Cochran's nephew killedLOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Sean Cochran, the nephew of renowned defense attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr., was shot and killed here Saturday evening. The 16-year-old was riding a bicycle with 19-year-old Anthony Caldwell on a sidewalk in Jefferson Park, a few miles from the University of Southern California campus, when a man in his mid-20s approached and shot them several times with a handgun, police said. Paramedics declared Cochran and Caldwell dead at the scene, said Guillermo Campos, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department. Police said the gunman is at large. He has not been identified publicly, nor has a weapon been recovered. The shootings took place at 6:55 p.m. (9:55 p.m. ET), but police did not confirm it until Sunday morning, a normal delay for "high-profile" cases, Campos said. Sean Cochran was the nephew of attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr. Attempts to reach the lawyer Sunday were unsuccessful. |
