Van plows into N.Y. pedestrians, killing six
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Six people were killed and as many as five were injured Thursday when a commuter van plowed into pedestrians and then hit the back of a bus, New York City police said. Police said the driver of the van was double-parked on 6th Avenue and was asked to move the vehicle about 5 p.m. When the van was moved, it jerked forward abruptly, struck an unknown number of pedestrians, and then the rear of the bus. The incident occurred in an area known as Herald Square, on the perimeter of the original Macy's department store. The van's driver is 70 years old, police said. |
