34 feared drowned after India boat capsizes

CALCUTTA, India (CNN) -- Thirty-four people are feared dead after the boat that was carrying more than 100 passengers capsized Saturday in the Ganges River north of the city of Calcutta in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Police said the boat was overloaded with passengers, grain and vegetables when a large wave swamped it, causing it to capsize.

Police said they pulled from the water nearly 70 survivors and four bodies, including two children and a woman.
