Singapore military jet crashes in Australia
CANBERRA, Australia -- A Singaporean military jet has crashed during a training exercise in Western Australia but the pilot ejected safely. "It was one of their training aircraft," a spokesman for the Australian Defense Force told Reuters news agency. "(It) appears to have had a problem in-flight. The pilot ejected safely and I believe he has been taken to hospital." The pilot was spotted by a Search and Rescue helicopter, which picked him up.
The plane crashed into unoccupied land about one km (0.6 miles) from the runway at the Royal Australian Air Force base in Pearce, on the outskirts of Perth on Australia's west coast. Singapore's air force uses the Pearce base for training. Reuters contributed to this report. |
