A look back at the Taliban taking control

(CNN) -- Five years ago, the Taliban took control of Kabul, after a swift military campaign across southern Afghanistan.

Then, as now, fighting continued between the Taliban and the opposition Northern Alliance not far from the capital.

CNN's chief international correspondent, Christiane Amanpour, was in Kabul as the Taliban consolidated their control of the city and began implementing their strict interpretation of Islamic government.
