Chopper crash kills six in S Korea

SEOUL, South Korea -- A helicopter with 12 people on board has crashed in stormy waters off South Korea's south coast, killing at least six.

"Four of them were rescued and taken away to nearby hospitals and two were feared missing," a police spokesman in Jinhae told Reuters.

The aircraft crashed in the East Sea, about two miles off Jinahe city, 400 kilometers (248 miles) southeast of Seoul, at 11:40 a.m. (0240 GMT), police said.

The helicopter was headed for Koje Island, where Daewoo has its shipyard, from Pusan, near Jinhae.

A Daewoo Shipbuilding spokesman said Kim Chong-jin, chairman of Dongkuk Steel Mill Co. and four company officials had been aboard.

"We don't know right now if he is dead or not," he said.

The spokesman said he believed bad weather conditions had caused the accident.

The Associated Press & Reuters contributed to this report.
