JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Two people were killed and two others remain missing after an explosion at an Acehnese student dormitory, authorities said.

Two people were critically injured by the blast, which police classified as a bomb. The two people missing were believed to be buried in the rubble.

The explosion went off Thursday afternoon inside a dormitory for students from the restive province of Aceh. A portion of the building was destroyed.

Police blockaded the residential area around the dormitory and evacuated some of the residents. They took some of the dorm employees in for questioning, but no arrests have been made.

Aceh is undergoing a separatist insurgence.

A second device exploded about an hour later in Depok, a university suburb south of Jakarta. No one was injured and only minimal damage was reported.

Police said the small homemade explosive was delivered as a package to a resident, who became suspicious and placed it in a garbage bin. The device exploded before police arrived.

Authorities have not confirmed there is a connection between the two explosions. It was also unclear whether the blasts were related to a recent spate of bombings that have hit the capital.

CNN's Atika Shubert contributed to this report.
