Megawati to meet Bush next month

WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush will host Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri for a working visit on Sept. 19 to discuss support for political and economic reforms following her assumption of power, the White House said on Wednesday.

"The president looks forward to discussing with President Megawati how the United States can best support her efforts for political, economic, and financial reform," the White House said in a news release issued while Bush was traveling in New Mexico.

Megawati took power in late July following parliament's ousting of her predecessor Abdurrahman Wahid.

Megawati is seeking to quell separatist violence in several provinces, reform the country's economy and improve ties with the International Monetary Fund.

Reuters contributed to this report.
