Wanted man jailed in Thailand
BANGKOK, Thailand -- An FBI most -wanted list fugitive has been jailed for passport offenses in a move likely to see him extradited to the U.S. to face pedophile charges. Eric Franklin Rosser pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight months, reduced to four months, for entering Thailand on a false passport. Rosser, 49, jumped bail in Thailand last year while awaiting trial on molestation and child pornography charges. He is also wanted in the U.S. and was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2000 on similar charges. FBI officials said extradition proceedings were already underway. Thailand has said it has not yet decided whether to put Rosser on trial for the child sex charges before extraditing him.
Rosser, an internationally renowned musician who once played keyboard for singer John Mellencamp, was captured in northern Bangkok on Tuesday after more than a year on the run. He ran a music school for children in Bangkok until February 2000 when he was first arrested. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) describes him as "an admitted child molester" wanted over "the international production, distribution, and exchange of child pornography . . . (and) his alleged molestation of a number of young girls in Thailand." The arrest came after Rosser was featured on the television show "America's Most Wanted" which resulted in leads from 53 countries, a U.S. Embassy spokeswoman said. |
