Timor's vote: Final result

Voting
Last week's poll takes East Timor a step closer toward independence

(CNN) -- The following is a breakdown of the final uncertified results of the election for East Timor's 88-member constituent assembly.

The results and seat allocation will be presented to the head of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor, Sergio Viera de Mello, for certification on September 10, giving parties and candidates four days to make any final appeals.

Share of the vote

Of a total 384, 248 votes cast the Frente Revolucionária do Timor-Leste Independente (Fretilin) won 57.37 percent of the vote.

In second place was the Partido Democrático (PD) with 8.72%, followed by the Partido Social Democrata (PSD) with 8.18 percent in third place and the Associação Social-Democrata Timorense (ASDT) fourth with 7.84 percent of votes cast.

5.4 percent of the votes cast were considered spoiled or otherwise invalid.

District seats

Fretilin won 12 out of 13 district seats with just one going to an independent candidate.

Fretilin now controls the district seats in Alieu, Ainaro, Baucau, Bobonaro, Cova Lima, Dili, Ermera, Lautem, Liquica, Manatuto, Manufahi and Viqueque.

The seat of the coastal enclave of Oecussi -- East Timorese territory entirely surrounded by Indonesian-controlled West Timor -- goes to independent candidate, Antonio da Costa Lelan.

National representatives

The remaining 75 seats in the constituent assembly have been allocated according to the proportion of the vote won by each party nationwide.

With 57.37 percent of the vote Fretlin wins the lions share, taking 43 seats.

The PD takes 7 seats, the PSD 6 and the ASDT 6.

Five other parties have won two seats each, with three more winning just one seat each.

The remaining nine parties and independents failed to win enough votes to take a single seat.
