BOSTON, Massachusetts -- Former South Vietnamese president Nguyen Van Thieu died Saturday in Boston. Thieu, 78, died at 10:30 p.m. at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, said hospital spokesman Jerry Berger. Thieu was president of the Republic of South Vietnam from 1967 to 1975. He resigned shortly before the communist takeover and went into exile, eventually settling in the Boston area. Berger declined to reveal Thieu's cause of death. |
