Two dead in Hungary crash

BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Two Hungarian soldiers have been killed after two helicopter gunships collided during a training mission.

Two other crew on board were severely injured when the helicopters crashed, ambulance personnel said.

"We had to take two severe casualties to the Veszprem traumatology unit, and two other crew died," an ambulance official said from Veszprem, the western Hungarian city closest to the accident scene.

The collision occurred near a central army training field at the village of Gyulafiratot, about 10 km (six miles) northeast of Veszprem.

The Defence Ministry said an investigation would be launched into the accident.

The statement said a total of four people were on board the two Soviet-made Mi-24 gunships.

Reuters contributed to this report.
