Diana butler charged with theft
LONDON, England -- A former butler to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, has been charged with the theft of jewels, gifts and cash from her estate. Harold Brown, 48, has been charged with four counts of theft involving items that vanished between January 1, 1997, and November 15, 2000. A police spokeswoman said he had been charged with stealing a jewel daffodil motif, a ring, a model ship and base, a bracelet, a pair of earrings and £1,200. The model of an Arab dhow was a gift from the Emir of Bahrain to mark the Prince and Princess of Wales' marriage in 1981. Three other people have been arrested in connection with the alleged thefts. Brown had been a butler to Diana, who died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, and he was most recently employed by the Queen's sister, Princess Margaret. He was released on bail and will appear at Bow Street Magistrates Court on April 25, the police spokeswoman said. RELATED STORIES:
