Net twins couple want new adoption
LONDON, England -- A UK couple who lost custody of twins they adopted over the Internet have vowed to adopt another child. Judith and Alan Kilshaw adopted twin girls, born in the U.S., via a Web site, only to have another couple claim they had already adopted them. Courts in the UK and U.S. became involved to determine who should have custody of Kimberley and Belinda before a High Court in Britain ruled that the nine-month-old babies should return to America. In mid-April they went to St. Louis, where their estranged biological parents are each seeking to regain custody.
Now Judith Kilshaw says she wants to adopt from the U.S. as soon as she can afford to, and move there or to continental Europe, the British Press Association reported. "The twins were well looked after and well cared for. If I got a call today, I would be gone," she said. "I have already had the offer of a baby, but that process is very much in its infancy so I won't count on anything until it happens." The couple, who have four children, paid £8,200 ($11,700) for the twins. They do not plan to appeal against the court ruling. But Judith Kilshaw said she would stop paying taxes to protest against the "establishment", which she blames for her unsuccessful fight to keep twins. She blames the UK Government, the Welsh Assembly and officials from the social services who took the twins into care while their future was determined. "I have always been wary of the establishment, but this has enhanced it," she added. "I'm not propping up a conspiracy. I'm not paying a thing in taxes. I don't care what they do to me any more. I've got nothing left they can damage or take." If she moved to the U.S., Alan, 46, a solicitor, would go with her, but he would stay at home in north Wales if she left for Europe. She said the rest of her family would follow her. |
