Football scouts to use Internet
AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands -- Aspiring football stars hoping to join Dutch first division side Willem II Tilburg will soon be able to apply via the Internet. A new system on the club's Web site invites hopefuls to send in a digital video of their footballing skills as well as their personal details when they apply to play at the club. The videos will be stored on an interactive database that the club's chief talent scout will browse in the hope of finding the country's next football sensation, a spokesman for the club told CNN. "As well learning more about the player's background, we want to see his best footballing skills on tape, such as how he takes a free kick or a penalty," the spokesman said. The club has high hopes for their new electronic scouting system. "It's quite an effort to make a video," the spokesman told CNN. "It's not something you just do in five minutes -- we are sure people who are interested will do it seriously." "It may be a bit premature to believe the new Ronaldo will come to the Internet but who knows?" he added. The software has been designed by a Dutch Internet company called Inform Me, and is the first system of its kind to be used in the Netherlands. |
