Spanish bus crash kills 19

Crash scene
Medics and firefighters attempt to rescue those injured during the crash

HUELVA, Spain -- A bus carrying pensioners has crashed killing at least 19 people, the Spanish Interior Ministry has said.

Another 14 people were injured when the coach veered off a road and flipped over about 50 kilometres (30 miles) northwest of the city of Huelva in southern Spain on Wednesday.

It is thought the bus was carrying 40 passengers on their way back to their hotel from a trip to a cave in a Huelva province nature park.

The driver, who was not injured, is believed to have lost control of the vehicle while taking a corner.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear as the weather was good and the road was repaved three years ago, news reports said.

The pensioners are from Barcelona, Tarragona and other northeast cities.
