Turkey child porn Internet arrest

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Turkish police have arrested a man alleged to have been involved in an international Internet child porn ring.

Ozgen Imamoglu was detained by police as part of a month-long investigation into photographs of dozens of boys aged between eight and 12 being posted on the Web, said Turgut Pehlivanoglu, Bursa's deputy police chief.

The arrest was part of an international operation, code-named Landmark, that has led to more than 130 arrests and search warrants across Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States.

Police were still questioning Imamoglu 24 hours after his arrest in the northwestern city of Bursa on Wednesday.

They have also visited the school in Bursa where Imamoglu worked as a children's adviser, the Anatolia news agency reported.

Police said they had identified five of the children seen in the pictures, who have since been taken to a hospital for psychological treatment.

Police are investigating whether some of the other children in the pictures may be in the southern city of Gaziantep, where Imamoglu had previously worked as a children's adviser, Anatolia said.

Other countries involved in the crackdown are Belgium, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan.
