Bus crashes near Rome airportROME, Italy -- A number of people have been injured after a public bus plunged around 50 feet from an overpass near Rome's main airport. The Italian news agency AP.Biscom quoted unidentified fire officials as saying at least 20 people were injured in the accident on Saturday. The ANSA news agency said one person had died. Eva Berto, a doctor in the emergency room of Sant'Eugenio hospital, told The Associated Press that ambulance dispatchers reported lots of injured victims being taken to several hospitals. Italian news reports said the bus was travelling from the town of Fiumicino, near Leonardo da Vinci airport. The reports said it broke through a guardrail and fell off the elevated road, landing on its side in a field near a hotel and near the entrances and exits to the main road linking the Italian capital to the airport. The Italian news agency AGI said helicopters were ferrying some of the injured to Rome hospitals. |
