Two dead in Italy bus crash

ROME, Italy -- Two people died in Italy when a public bus plunged around 50 feet from an overpass near Rome's main airport.

The 35-year-old driver and a passenger, said in reports to be from Senegal, died and six other passengers were injured in the accident, Italian news reports said.

The bus was travelling from the town of Fiumicino, near Leonardo da Vinci airport, when it broke through a guardrail and plummeted off the elevated road.

Reports said the bus landed on its side near a hotel. Three Rome hospitals reported admitting a total of six injured passengers.

Rome's top fire official, Cmdr. Luigi Abate said authorities were considering the possibility the driver handled a curve badly or became ill.

In 1984 a public bus plunged from the same stretch of elevated road, killing eight and injuring 20.
