Ferrari fans celebrate Schumacher's victory in Hungary

ROME, Italy (CNN) -- The Italian town of Maranello erupted with cheers and honking horns as Ferrari drivers clinched the top two places in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hundreds watched on television screens at the Ferrari workshops in the central Italian town near Bologna.

When rival David Coulthard emerged from a pit stop behind Schumacher's team-mate Rubens Barrichello, the crowd cheered and unfurled red, yellow and black Ferrari flags, before spilling out onto the streets.

The victory ensures a third constructors' championship for Ferrari, as they now have a 68-point lead with only 64 on the table.

A number of Ferraris took to the streets of Maranello, with fans throwing themselves on the ground as a mark of respect as the cars passed by.

The town's vicar, the Rev Alberto Bernardoni sounded the town's church bells in celebration.

''I'm more than happy -- this triumph should be read as the beginning of the preparations for next year,'' he said.

''We should begin right away to work for the third world title,'' he added.

The town's Mayor, Giancarlo Bertacchini, said: ''Maranello is becoming accustomed to these successes. I think that this year we will have time to organise a nice celebration with those involved in this triumph.''

Bertacchini was due to open the town's official festivities at midnight.

At resorts on the Adriatic's Riviera Romagnola, Germans and Italians watched the race together on televisions set up on the beach.

And bakers from the central Italian town of Orentano showed their love for Ferrari by creating a five-metre-long cake in the shape of Schumacher's winning Formula One car.

Fifty pastry chefs were putting the finishing touches to the cake, made from 40,000 cream pies and decorated with almond paste, custard cream and chocolate, as Schumacher raced to victory.
