Bush delays decision on embassy move to JerusalemMADRID, Spain (CNN) -- U.S. President George W. Bush has delayed for another six months any decision by the United States to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The White House released a Bush memo to Secretary of State Colin Powell, in which he used his authority to suspend or waive provisions of legislation calling for the embassy move "to protect the national security interests of the United States." Bush said he was committed to ultimately moving the embassy. But the plan has been put on hold because of the sensitivity of the issue to the Palestinians, who also claim Jerusalem as their capital. |
