Israel attacks Palestinian targets in GazaJERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israeli helicopters attacked three Palestinian targets in northern Gaza early Sunday in response to the firing of mortar bombs in the area over the weekend and last week, the Israel Defence Forces said. The IDF said the three targets were mortar bomb factories.
Palestinian security sources said two workshops were destroyed by the strikes -- one in the village of Beit Lahaya and the other in Jabaliya, a Palestinian refugee camp. They said helicopter missiles and ground-to-ground missiles were used. There were no injuries, the Palestinian security sources said. The attacks came a day after Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, cancelled a trip to the United States. An Israeli spokesman says Sharon postponed the visit, which had been due to take place on November 11, because of the security situation in the region. |
