Two Israeli elite soldiers injuredJERUSALEM (CNN) -- Two Israeli elite anti-terrorist soldiers were injured when they tried to arrest wanted Palestinians in the West Bank. The border soldiers were hurt, one slightly and the other moderately, after coming under fire in the village of Baka al Sharkiya, a statement from the Israeli prime minister's office said on Thursday.
The statement added: "During an operation last night to arrest wanted Palestinians in the West Bank village of Baka al Sharkiya by an Israeli elite anti-terrorist squad, fire was opened towards the force. "During the exchange of fire, a strong explosion was heard. Two Israeli paramilitary from the elite force were injured." Israel Radio reported on Thursday that a Palestinian suicide bomber, belonging to Hamas, had blown himself up. Palestinian security and Palestine Red Crescent Society sources said they were told by the Red Cross to send an ambulance to pick up the body. The body has not been turned over by the Israelis, Palestinian sources added, and no information has been released on the identity of the dead person. A Palestinian man wanted in the shooting of a settler died on Wednesday after he was shot as Israeli border police attempted to arrest him near the West Bank town of Hebron, Israeli authorities said. The Palestine Red Crescent Society named the man as Issa Dababfeh, an activist in Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement. |
