Iraq agrees to U.N. program -- for nowBAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraq announced Saturday that it would go along with an extension to the U.N. oil-for-food program agreed upon by the Security Council but added that it would resist any future changes to the program. The previous phase of the program expired Saturday morning Baghdad time, raising concerns that Iraq could stop pumping oil if it did not agree to a new phase. Foreign Minister Naji Sabri said Iraq would reject any measures to further restrict trade or hinder its economic and scientific development. The minister declined to answer questions. |
