Hamas halts suicide attacksRAMALLAH, West Bank (CNN) -- The following is a translation of the Hamas statement, submitted in Arabic and translated by CNN's Rula Amin, calling for the end to suicide bombings and mortar attacks in Israel: The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas - Palestine To our sons, the sons of the Palestinian people, the strugglers, and to our Arab and Islamic nation: For the sake of the unity of our Palestinian people and for the sake of preserving the jihad and the march of the Palestinian people to achieve their freedom and independence and despite our full knowledge and awareness of the intentions of the Zionist occupier enemy to crush the will of our people and to humiliate our people through their aggressive and repressive measures and in responding and engaging to all those who have tried to talk reason with us that we should undermine the chance on the occupiers to hit our national unity, we and from our sense of historic responsibility in this very sensitive period in the history of our people, declare a halt to the martyrdom (suicide) operations inside the land occupied in 1948 (Israel) and a halt to firing mortars until further notice. We emphasize this to all our members especially the Brigade of the Izzidin al-Qassam (militant wing of Hamas), asking them to abide by this until God decides otherwise. It is a jihad until victory or martydom. |
